CONFIRMATION RETREAT INFORMATION

Confirmation Retreat Information

Every year, the Confirmation retreat is one of the highlights of the 10th grade Confirmation experience.

This year, our Confirmation retreat is Thursday, September 16 (Yom Kippur). It begins at 10:00 AM in Keilty Hall at St. Brigid Parish and ends at 4:00 PM.

The cost of the retreat is $40. Checks can be made payable to St. Brigid Parish. If this represents a hardship, please contact me and the fee will be waived.

The retreat will be run by Jim Flanagan, who has run retreats here in Lexington for a couple of years. The kids really enjoy him!

Lunch will be catered - let me know if your teen has any food intolerances or allergies. If you need to speak to the caterer directly, I can put you in touch with them.

Dress is casual.

We are continuing a tradition from earlier retreats, called palanca letters. A palanca letter is written by you - parents and/or others - siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, sponsors, other special people in your teen's life - to let them know how much they are loved and valued. You may write of how you've seen them grow, the pride you have in them, your hopes for their future, your hopes for this retreat... whatever is in your heart. These letters are easily one of the most moving parts of the retreat, and should only be positive in nature.

The palanca letters are only read by your child - no one else will see them. We put everything in a large manila envelope, so each teen will only see what is in their envelope.

Please do not include anything else other than letters - i.e., photo albums, etc. We try to keep the distribution of the letters as equitable as possible.

We set aside some time - between 20-30 minutes - toward the end of the retreat so they can spend some time reading each letter.

Please have at least one letter to us by Wednesday, September 1. You can continue sending as many as you like up until the time the retreat starts, but we need to know every teen has at least one letter by September 1. The letter(s) should be in a sealed envelope with your teen's name and "Palanca" on the front.

If not every teen has a letter, we cannot give them out during the retreat!

The palanca letters are intended to be a surprise - so please don't spill the beans!
