During the Advent season, we invite parishioners to spread Christmas joy through the Giving Tree. Each gift tag represents a specific gift for someone--children at our sister parishes in Roxbury, Si Se Puede, an after-school program in Lawrence, families of St. Mary Parish in Lynn or local families assisted by our Compassion Fund. In 2020, the gift "tags" are posted online via SignUp Genius.

This organization promotes global observance of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Once a year, our parishioners participate in a letter-signing campaign that calls attention to the unjust imprisonment of nonviolent political prisoners and requests their release. This simple activity has proven effective in gaining the release of specific prisoners and in improved observance of human rights in troubled countries. A high volume of letters is critical.

Bread for the World advocates for the hungry at home and abroad. Members are kept current about upcoming votes on hunger issues in Congress through a monthly newsletter. We support this organization by our paid membership and a once-a-year letter-writing campaign to senator(s) or representative(s) highlighting the effects of proposed legislation on the hungry and malnourished.

The mission of the Celebrating Adoption Community is to encourage families formed through adoption, kinship care and foster care in our parish community. The ministry also helps to raise awareness of and promote adoption as a way to form a forever family. Since 2002 members have gathered each November for a Saturday evening adoption celebration, and the following Sunday morning for the Adoption Mass at Sacred Heart Church. Members are always available to discuss adoption with anyone expressing an interest or desiring more information. For several years the group has donated Teddy Bears to the Massachusetts Department of Children and Family Services. The Teddy Bears are given out on National Adoption Day at local courthouses where children and teens finalize adoption with their parents after being in foster care.

Our prison visitors make weekly/monthly visits to prisoners who no longer have access to the outside world. Simply being present to share Mass and prayer with them makes a difference in their lives. Offering spiritual support and counseling in one-on-one sessions helps them survive and find benefit in their restricted life. Coming to know a prisoner and being available after she is released is very important as the woman tries to re-build her life and avoid future problems with the law. At this time, the prison is not allowing visits from our volunteers.

Hospitality after the 10:30 a.m. Mass has been offered year-round at Sacred Heart for more than 15 years with the help of many volunteers. Hospitality provides an enjoyable venue for parishioners to meet socially, for newcomers to be introduced and integrated into the parish community and also invited to participate in the various lay ministries. Guest speakers or other parish activities (e.g. Amnesty International letter signing, Christmas wreath making, etc.) may also be scheduled at this time.
