This weekend’s scriptures speak about truth. Amos (8:4-7) the prophet warns his people about being honest in business practices. Paul, in his letter to Timothy (2:1-8), asks that all people should recognize their relationship with God and one another so we are always bringing each other to God in prayer. The Luke gospel (16:10-13), asks people to be trustworthy in the tasks given to us by God. Where do we learn to be trustworthy, truthful and reliable?
Pastor William R. Grimbol in his book The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Spirituality for Teens suggests we get our impressions from home life. We must learn about what we hold to be truth and what our family stands for—for better or worse. Sometimes we have to search our philosophies of life and the “truths” we hold about our self and our world. All too often these “truths” may not be conscious or examined and yet they color everything..
This is what Pastor Grimbol discovered:
“In my family, certain truths were the unspoken code of our family. I never recognized this code until I got into therapy in college.
The following was the Grimbol Code of Conduct:
A Grimbol should never be angry.
A Grimbol should never be wrong.
A Grimbol should always put others first.
A Grimbol should be generous to a fault.
A Grimbol should not need help with emotional issues.
A Grimbol must never think too highly of himself.
A Grimbol should identify with the little guy.
A Grimbol should always be happy with what he gets.
A Grimbol is never lucky.
A Grimbol longs for the good old days, when the people and life were better.
Over the years, these truths have been both a blessing and a curse in my life. This is the case for all family codes of conduct. Sometimes they work wonders. Sometimes they wreak havoc. It has taken me a long time to adjust and alter that code of conduct so that is offers me a better chance at health and happiness."

Spaghetti Supper
Frank Bellini and his Master Crew are planning a Spaghetti Supper on October 2nd at St. Brigid’s Parish Hall. This will be a good transitional event for both parishes. Please show your support for this new community and meet some new friends! Because we expect this event to be large, we are asking that you RSVP to Claire at 781-862-4646 by September 27th. We need to know the numbers for our Chef!
Blankets for Pine Ridge
Pine Ridge Reservation, the home of 18,000 Lakota Sioux, is one of the poorest areas of the U.S. Fierce winters leave many cold when their propane runs out. Each year we collect blankets for the people of Pine Ridge. Please bring NEW blankets (preferably washable) to the parish center. We will send them to the reservation after Columbus Day Weekend (considered by many native people to be a time of mourning). For more information, call Fran at 781-861-7231.
Cooks For Rosie’s Place needed
Rosie's Place, a haven for homeless women, needs several volunteers to cook 12 portions of lasagna or salad once every two months. Food is left in Lexington and delivered and served by our CCD classes. Next Rosie's Sunday is October 17. We share this ministry with St. Brigid's. Call Fran Ludwig at 781-861-7231.
Retreat With Sr. Ruth Rosenbaum
Sr. Ruth Rosenbaum will lead a retreat to help us reflect on the journey of our parish community. How has the impending closure of Sacred Heart impacted us? What are our hopes and fears for the future? How can we discern what God wants for us as a community at this moment and months from now? Time will be provided for prayer and sharing. The retreat will be held on October 3rd in the Parish Center, but the time has not been determined yet. We will keep you informed as soon as possible.
Fund-Raiser Books
Lexington residents, Peggy and Bob Blouin, are again selling the Entertainment Book 2005 at $20 each to benefit the Leukemia Outreach Group, a group of people who have leukemia or other blood-related cancers.
The north and south books have been combined. The other books available are central and southern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. If anyone wishes to purchase a book or would like more information please call 781-862-0263.
St. Brigid Religious Education
DO YOU HAVE A CHILD WHO WENT OFF TO COLLEGE THIS MONTH?
Consider joining a group of parents whose children have gone off to school (maybe for the first time or maybe for their last year). We’ll have a very informal conversation centered around what that’s like and how we’re helping our children cope with this brand new experience and talk about how we’re adjusting to life with out our child living at home. Everyone’s invited to bring their own experiences into the mix, including parents of high school students who may be wondering what it’s like to have a child leave home for college.
Join us on Tuesday, September 21st at 7:30 p.m. in the library. Call Jaye @ 781-862-8724 or Mary @ 781-862-0794 if you have any questions or would like more information.

Wise Design
God wisely designed the human body so that we can neither pat our own backs nor kick ourselves to easily.
Lord, may your Church become ever more truly what it is called to be, a band of chosen servants united above all else in seeking you with their whole heart,
in serving you and the Gospel with all their energy
and zeal, and in living lives of prayer and
gratitude for all your many gifts and blessings.
Our meeting at St. Brigid’s last Sunday was very productive. A small group went to St. John’s seminary on Tuesday evening to meet with Fr. Chris O’Connor and plan for our first Youth Mass on October 3rd at 5:00pm at St. Brigid’s.
A second meeting will be held on Sunday, September 19 from 5-7 PM at St. Brigid for teens who would like to help plan the Youth Mass and the program to follow. Any teen in 9th – 12th grade is most welcome
You can help make this year a great one for teens in our faith communities.
There will be a meeting for our current YM adult commission at St. Brigid on Monday, September 27 @ 7:00 PM . (PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF DATE)
New members are needed to make our Youth Ministry work! Kate Doherty (YM at St. Brigid) has sent a letter to all parents in both parishes inviting them to come to an information night.
Sacred Heart has had a dedicated (but small) group who made things possible (Youth Mass, bingo, Youth Convention, Road to Resurrection, etc.). They need help – especially some male members. No Youth Minister can accomplish these programs without help. Please consider giving time at some level to support our T.L.C. (Teen Leadership Crew) and those to follow. It can only prosper with the support of the community!
