Faith Development

Faith Development Commission

"Faith is both a gift of God and an authentically human response - a recognition of God's call in one's life and a free decision to follow this call by accepting and living the truth of the Gospel. As such, faith is living and active, sharing many of the qualities of living things: it grows and develops over time; it learns from experience; it adapts to changing conditions while maintaining its essential identity; it goes through seasons, some apparently dormant, others fruitful, though wherever faith is present the Holy Spirit is at work in the life of the disciple."
--Our Hearts Were Burning Within Us, p. 50

We are all called to see faith as a gift and to continue to nurture that faith through reflection, prayer, involvement in community life, and works of service. Our parishes, through the Faith Development Commission, encourages members to participate in parish educational opportunities, to share in small faith groups, and to take time as a household to talk about God.

It is our goal to reach out to all present and prospective parishioners of all ages from both parishes.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Faith Development Commission is to foster ongoing education of the adult faith community in the beliefs and practices of the Church to increase opportunities for spiritual growth among the members of the Catholic Community in Lexington and to heighten the awareness of the implications of faith and morality in regard to current issues.  By providing a variety of programs, it is hoped that all members of the Catholic Community in Lexington will continue to deepen their faith and strengthen our community.

While the commission serves as the main advisory and organizing entity, the day-to-day work of the commission is conducted by committees, some of which serve their respective parish, some the entire Lexington Catholic Community.

Marriage Preparation
Marriage Preparation Programs take different forms, but they all aim to help couples talk about issues that may not have come up while they were dating, including finances, raising a family, chores, family backgrounds, conflict resolution, and gender roles. Marriage preparation programs also supply couples with proven strategies for overcoming tough times.
